Caravan Stoneguards

Post by goldfinger on Fri 24 Apr 2015, 3:35 pm

well I got my rear window fixed yesterday, at a cost of $588 as the insurance didnt cover it so i now also have new insurance. i wont let it happen again so made up a stone guard for the van, its a bit ugly but so am I Very Happy  and it will do the job, just need a bit of black spray for the angle brackets and a few tabs to fix the top down to the top of the van.

Looks good Martin, just need to wash off the red dirt from the car and get a 12 gramer on the next trip to pay for it.

Cheers

An absolute bugger having a tow vehicle with a rear screen. Have seen so many busted like that.
Probably the reason so many tape a piece of heavy cardboard across the back.

Having a trayback with only an open rear canopy I am often amazed by the size of some of the "rocks" thrown into the back, either picked up by the back wheels or bounced off the front of the van.

Good luck with the trip, hope you get "fourple" the gold to cover the glass! bounce

I guess i have been luck as it hasn't happened for 3 years worth of trips but it seems it is a common occurrence with rear window vehicles. i wonder what the rules are for front window protectors. probably couldn't have something quite elaborate but you use to see them all the time but not anymore. does anyone know if they are not allowed?

I cant see why one could not have a mesh protector on the outside.
Our i30 wagon has a mesh cargo barrier inside so where is the difference.
Just might make cleaning the glass a little difficult.

Many trucks still have mesh windscreen protectors so I image they are not prohibited on cars.

Martin, who was the offending insurer and who is your new one?

cheers Mike, as long as it doesnt interfere with vision i cannot see an issue either. probably better to not mention the actual name of the offending insurer Robert, but they are a bit backwards when it comes to... car... insurance (if you get my drift), I did have full comprehensive but i should of checked the policy and payed a bit more for the full glass protection not just windscreen, something to bear in mind when renewing guys but i am now with youi and they have done a great deal for us as we transferred both our cars home, contents and landlord insurance with them.
good point robert about the trucks having them, i will look at making something up and run it by the local police here in Northampton, they are quite reasonable fellas.
