well done Jase and Martin..

That certainly explains how to set your harness up and fully appreciate what the Z has to offer.

cant wait to see the women u have tagging along digging all your targets... lol! lol!

the vid is worth a thousand words and now those who said its near impossible to swing with just your thumb and fore finger have got the picture.

Good stuff! Well done Jase and Martin.
Wish I had a 7000 to try it out on. Sad

It's a top idea alright, I was just using the old harness that came with the 4500/5000 machines because I couldn't get the new one to fit and be comfortable to use, it got me thinking and I tried the way jase has his setup.

I varied it slightly as you do to suit your own way of detecting, I only use the RH "J" strut (being Right handed) and done away with the plastic cross piece and just use the "D" ring on the RH shoulder strap of the harness.

I then positioned the Velcro attachment in the same position as jase had in his picture and a single loop around the handle with the bungy, man what a difference to the balance and ease of use this has made.

CHEERS DAVE
it goes to show that with a picture or two to illustrate what Jase was talking about --the finer points of the adjustment to the pro swing and thus eliminating the fatigue factor---we can put those massage parlours out of business.

then again maybe just slow them down.

Hello Jase,
Only just realised you are the same Jase we met a couple of times, first time in Bunnings carpark (Rockingham), still have the photo of your gold you sent to me.
Then we caught up by chance at the water fill in Leonora. You had just returned from Qld?
Still swinging the 4500 here, waiting for the 7500. Suspect
Catch you down the track.

got back safe and sound late last night after a great trip with gold being won by everyone. jase had a ripper day on wednesday getting 52 bits and it certainly opened my eyes on the potential of the 7k that when set up correctly as jase had it, found any gold under your coil. I struggled with the 5k even with a sadie coil on due to the size of the gold that was left but did manage to pick up 12 bits for just under 7 grams, so I easy covered fuel for the trip. the majority of the gold was very small with the biggest being 1.4g but most were around the 0.2g mark. glad you all like the vid, sorry about the sound and occasional finger across the screen i was trying to keep the wind off the Phone. his method sets up the 7k so you can swing her all day, great innovation created through necessity, well done Jase.  i have a couple of other vids to upload and will post them once ready. sorry i missed you Darren, good to put a face to the name and thoroughly enjoyed the company, steve (rarebreed's dad) had everything you needed to go remote for a few months, especially electronic wise, he sure knows his stuff. a great bunch of fellas to head out with.
cheers

the missus holding my nuggets after handing over the gold. oops. one tiny piece missing that was still in the jar.

A couple of test vids of the GPZ7000 vs the GPX5000. the sound is crap in a couple of them due to the wind, sorry about that but i can assure you even with the sadie coil on the GPX5000 it was no match for the 7K. some tiny bits of gold recovered although as you can see in the pic above i got most of the biggies left behind. most i got around the stumps of nasty bushes and have lots of cuts on my hands and arms to show for the effort but it got the gold.
cheers
Martin

Well done with the videos fellas, thanks for taking the time and posting them up.

I have also found similar on some targets with the 7000 up against the 4500, quite a few both can hear, and on some the 4500 gave no response, and there was a small nugget at about 6" deep on these occasions.

for some unknown reason the harness was annoying the living crap out of me...was set up in a weightless position yet the arm rest was pinching me when got near the RHS arm of the harness..

will have to readjust the arm to try to overcome this rather annoying and sore pinching of the inside of the right arm..

a few more close ups of how to set your harness up to the best advantage..

the back strap has to be adjusted via the Velcro strap.
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

the bungy cord in position and its a locking system.
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

the Y strap across the front plays a very important purpose and must be connected.
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

u can easily lock the bungy
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

once adjusted to your balanced machine the bungy will look a bit offset--normal.
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

once u have balanced the tector don't forget to put a hitch around the handpiece as this will keep your machine in the upright position while swinging.

hope this helps someone to enjoy swinging the 7K.

Swinging from the centre, weight distributed between shoulders, now why didn't we think of that?

what I have found is that everyone that buys a detector is so excited to go swinging that they are 99% interested in the machine finding gold and leave the other essentials as a trial and error or a hap hazard type of remedy.

thus a vid and a few pics explains the virtues of the current methodology a lot simpler coz most are pretty simple people who just get on with what ever tweaks their fancy.

considering the main cause of concern is the weight factor--then really people have got nothing to whinge about now.

geez FSS u still read about the whingers saying the 7 is heavy--we all know it is that's why minelab included a bloody harness for u.

if some of these so called whingers took some time out and set their harness up properly they will have egg on their face.

once u balance the machine properly especially the way Jase has put that half hitch around the hand piece and attach the bungy to the brace then u should be able to swing all day and still have enough energy to play with yaself in the shower.

if setting the harness is a bit daunting please bring it into the workshop and I will give u a hand to set it up correctly, theres nothing to be embarrassed about u need to set it up correctly.

if u r going out for a few hours to try the 7k out, please don't tell us something every one of us knows about the weight.

We have all done that and been there and nothing will change until such time as u set the harness up properly.

just to clarify nightjar this idea is not just about the swing position, you also wrap the cord around the handle and adjust both the j strut up to shoulder height and adjust the velcro back strap as ray mentioned and tightening the waist belt to support it.
there has been a few on the knitting forum also claiming this is old stuff they did ages ago or been using it from day 1 even JP claimed he also did this, if so why wasn't it suggested when everyone was winging about the weight of the 7k when first released? (maybe to let you all suffer for a while then sell them cheap) i think not.
this is Jase's setup born from necessity as a full time prospector and not some copied idea from the past.

on another note --

for those who haven't noticed -- u need to pull down on the bungy Y strap cords to lock em in.

that's why forums are a great source of info--most of us share info regardless for the benefit of others.

on another note--

a bloke from Leo came into the workshop the other day and showed me his harness that someone whos a lot smarter than me has developed and its a simple over one shoulder across the back and over the other shoulder frame that is light weight and takes all of 5 seconds to put on and in position and it has 2 x S/S eye bolts for the Y brace to connect plus it had a stubby holder on one side and a pick holder on the other shoulder.

unfortunately my pick is a new generation pick and it will not fit so I still carry my pick on my shoulder. so now u can have 2 stubby holders.

I have a couple of photos but they were not clear enough

have fun
