tyres for split rims.
a good tyre is the doublestar 14ply ratted tyre --it has a high lip to give u better clearance from the road surface.

I usually pump them up to 40psi around town and 45-50 on the rear when loaded.

Bloody good lookin set up you blokes are using, have both troopies got the ever reliable 1 HZ under the bonnet. Wouldn't be caught out bush in anything other than a Toyota. Toyota105, with the reliable but slowishhhh 1HZ

Re: tyres for split rims.
no martin only 16" Split rims due to the ply rating.
both troopies have 1hz motors 6 cylinders - easy to work on if the need arises.
Mine has a rear main leak so I wack 20w50 into her.
a pre diesel filter keeps away a lot of dramas.
the 105's are a sluggish bitch to drive --maybe a 3" exhaust and a dyna tune may increase performance..

Re: tyres for split rims.
Put a Brunswick in it and make an honest car of it! But watch out for a chewed out gearbox in a Yota.
BTW - has anyone fitted these LED light bars as a substitute for spotties? Any good? My spotties have had the bomb.

Re: tyres for split rims.
i fitted a 120w lightbar last week Les and its the best thing since sliced bread. i was told that its good to also combine spotties for distance as the lightbars spread a bit but still very impressive stand alone.

The LED light bars are only good for short distance and it brings it up to daylight--u can see ants crossing the road in front of u--cant beat a good set of hella 4000 spot and driving spots.
the hellas reach down about 1100m and led light bars don't come close. LED spotties like great whites well there a different ball game and u need a decent wallet to dig into.
don't need a V8 happy with what I have.

Ray, Can now see the definite advantage you have with your solar facing North and with your awning mounted on drivers side.
Cheers

Re: tyres for split rims.
I guessed that would be the case with the LED bars. It didn't look "right" as I use a lot of LED stuff and they have little penetration but plenty of flood.
Alas with buying a new fridge last week and two new tyres this week I don't have any spare cash for a candle never mind a set of spotties.
I needed a V8 after buying my Patrol as a 2.8 turbo (mickey mouse) with a blown engine, as a body shell. I built it after my beautiful, mint Landcruiser TD was stolen. It's been an experience,,,,,,,,pictures soon.
But never again will I own a vehicle that looks anything like decent. There's too many light fingered bastards out there. If I had my way, they'd have no fingers,,,,,,,,,,and I'd use an axe.
Gotta go!! Gert into town and get some tyres or I'm stuck here for another week!

Hey Ray,
I know a bloke who put a 3" catless pipe on his HZ, chalk and cheese difference in power, worth the expense, paid in fuel economy, but now sounds like turbo whistling truck.

Re: tyres for split rims.
I use to have a non-turbo 60 series and put a dual foam filter in the airbox that livened the old girl up a bit.
Mates of mine in a 4bie club suggested if I wasn't gunna go for a turbo and pipe, to put on an air ram and tuned extractors for 10-15% more tow but I never got there as it became a family wagon eventually before it got traded. If the manifold your model has is similar to what the 60 had, with the thing that looked like it should be bolted to a tractor (downpipe hanging off the end of the manifold near the fire wall creating an unbalanced exhaust).
Now got a chipped Hilux canopy 1 ton ute turbo, winds up OK on the highway, travel reasonably light heading out. But I'm not as hardcore as you guys up north.
