new headlights-replaceable globes..
after our trip to Meeka a few weeks ago and heading back in the dark, once I flicked the high beam onto Low Bean the headlights were a pail orange so that's it...
replaced the sealed beams with those with replaceable globes and new globes that are rated at 120% brighter than the original.
Hopefully this should cure my problem.
there shouldn't be any thing else to add to the old girl.
just have to go for a drive in the evening to see if they are 120% better.
All up another $130 all up so will see if that was a good investment.
Low beam has always been a problem on the Toyotas so here goes.

Re: new headlights-replaceable globes..
well after my test drive tonight --I can say that I am impressed.
should have done it bloody years ago.
So if u still have sealed beams round headlights then u will be impressed with the so called upgrade.
I can see at night without squinting at the side of the road looking for the white line.

Ray,
Sometimes pail yellow/orange head lights indicate poor earthing.
You say your new headlights are impressive, maybe more so if you unbolt all the body/motor earth straps and bring out a file.

Re: new headlights-replaceable globes..

enough light to burn the country side and see the ass end of dark brown bulls that frequent the long paddock.

Is that shot with or without your spotties and bar burning?

Re: new headlights-replaceable globes..
both the bars are on and the spotties are on as well.
I have a bar on the roof as well.
The spotties haven't been adjusted right but do the job. They can find drop bears on the side of the hills.
The bars only light up the immediate couple of hundred meters, the 2 spotties go about a Kilometre down the road.

Thought you must have a bar on the roof considering the reflection from front of vehicle.
Can of flat black paint will fix that.

Re: new headlights-replaceable globes..
I must do something about headlights and spotties. I don't much night driving anymore as I'm usually tucked up 7.30pm but when I do drive at night, they're pretty bad.
The spotties are old and the headlights suffer the perennial Nissan problem of bad earthing/wiring. The fuel gauge on mine is particularly bad one. I don't look at my fuel gauge, I just drive on instinct with it!
I'm not sure if you could do this sealed unit to globe conversion on a Patrol? Can you? The beam unit looks all in one special shape but I've never really looked at 'em.
Oh well, just get more sleep and then I can grow curly hair (as my Mum used to say).

The three Patrols I have had over the years have all had factory fitted globes. MQ Shortie, GQ Shortie & present GU Coil Cab.
Presently using HID spotties and they burn the bitumen, the down side is the reflection from road signs (especially at rail crossings) forces me to flick to low beam.
Quite often travel through the night, but as Ray mentioned keep a keen eye out for the many cattle on the Leonora/Leinster Goldfields Hwy.
