SDC headphones
I've often heard it said that the SDC2300 phones have a lead that is too short. In my short time with this machine I can't agree with that. The lead is a "curly cord" & easily stretches way out. The real problem is those crap KOSS headphones. What's happening is that the loose fitting, sloppy, floppy phones aren't sufficiently secure (read "tight") on yer head and when ya lift yer head the curly cord doesn't actually stretch. What is does is it pulls those bloody weak KOSS things off yer head,,,,,,,,,,,and you can look back at the cord and witness that it hasn't stretched an inch,,,,,,,,it's just acted like a solid thing and pulled the phones from yer ears!
KOSS phones aren't made for detecting. They're made for listening to music on yer sofa. Get some real detecting headphones - Grey Ghost and they won't keep flying off every 5 minutes. In the last 20 years of using Grey Ghosts I've had only one breakdown with 'em and that's me and the missus. The tone is loud, crisp and they have volume control and best of all they have an "on/off" switch for those "messy moments" when pinpointing or talking to someone etc. I love mine,,,,,,,,,,,but,,,,,,,,,
KOSS are useless IMO.

Re: SDC headphones
totally agree. I never used them with the 5000 as I only used the external speaker and booster. But a recent trip to Cue and the wind was blowing hard I decided to give the headphones that came with the 7000 a go. The Koss headphones fall a long way short especially when you consider the overall price of our detectors. As you say they don't sit on your head well. C'mon Minelab, pick your game up.

Wedgie/Craig,
This time of the year a beanie pulled down over your phones not keeps them on your head it keeps out any wind noises.

Wind? What wind? Round the Leonora atm, there's not even a breeze, just crystal clear skies. It could even be classed as WARM yesterday.
Mind you, the KOSS are so sloppy I reckon the KOSS would still get torn off. Hopeless.
I'm searching for that "certain" plug that's fitted to the SDC so I can make my own fly lead and use Grey Ghosts phones. It's a pretty obscure plug/socket. Even my youngest son, who a sales manager for Altronics can't locate one world-wide but we're still looking.
