ground balancing--

last trip I noticed that after ground balancing the & in the usual manner I thought I would see what would happen if I ground balanced in the missionary position and I found it was noisy so I reground balanced the machine and repeated the process and it went quiet.

Has anyone else came across this dilemma and found a cure or is it just me.

the auto smoothing was OFF--- high yield and difficult--once I noise cancel I usually switch it to Manual.

I used the ferrite on the weekend and yes it does make a difference.

U can hear the detector becoming quieter, geez this isn't hard to absorb, the ferrite does work and don't be scared of using it.

Keep swinging over the ferrite until u hear the machine getting quiet.

If u have a problem let us know.

It has been reported that minelab r coming up with an upgrade for the ground balance for the 7k,reported on the knitting club,

The issue I have is that when someone tells someone confidential info--then don't be a lowlife asswipe and sprout yah guts on a forum coz u can--respect the person that told u something as private and confidential, that is how u should respect yah mate. With a mate like "PAUL" u wont give him used ass paper, go use a sheet of plastic. With individuals like him, u wouldn't tell anyone were u r finding gold coz of the want to bignote oneself.

Hi, new to this forum but thought I would advise I have updated he 7000 with the new firmware and as I am going bush for 5 days to test it out. Can anybody advise if they use setting on 7000 with Sensitivity 20, Threshold 1. If so, what results have you found with this.

I have corresponded with Jonathan Porter as to what advice he can give for 7000 now it is upgraded and its use in WA. Here is his advice.

"The main advice is to always use the Ferrite to achieve a good ground balance. Try not to perform the Ferrite balance in extremely salty ground instead balance in quieter ground initially then move into the noisier soils allowing the Auto Tracker to do it's job. Once the main balance is done keep off the Quick-Track button and just pump the coil up and down to keep the G track correct the Ferrite part of the balance will hold true for the whole session so long as you don't trigger Quick-Trak."

just got back from a night at the Batchelor Pad. No women with us.

had the 7 upgraded and ferrite balanced.

was running the Threshold down real low
Sensitivity on 19.
Auto Smoothing was off
General and swapping between all three to see target response.
Normal

Had to Noise cancel at least twice due to the ground conditions and a partner working close.
One minute rock next 20 feet was river wash.

Due to the heat-41'C we packed up by 11am and headed home.

I did pull back the sensitivity a couple of notches. The Threshold stayed in single digit numbers.

if u r worried about the ferrite breaking---wrap some bubble wrap around it and stick it all together with clear tape..

keep the bubble wrap nice and tight around the ferrite and this should minimise future breakages..

the ring is $18 to replace so take care of it.

I noticed once the machine warmed up and when I went to ground balance the 7K with my finger on the button and swinging over the ring --it was immediately giving of a response and after about 40seconds the 7K had got its shit together and was finding me gold with very little interference..

Because I run my machine HOT --I don't mind a bit of noise in the background. I like to hear that the machine is humming away looking for fat nuggets and hopefully not these sub gram anorexic bloody things.

I leave mine in auto tracking, coz every 10feet the ground changes especially working around creeks and gullies then coming onto the flats again.

its easier for the machine to adjust than me to play around with..

That's OK now Ray, after the download has fixed the "Ground Balance wind up" issue. It was bloody obvious to me after a cuppla weeks using mine that the "wind up" in auto GB was the probable cause of so many EXPERIENCED people becoming disillusioned with the early 7000s. I was doing resets every 10 minutes when using Auto GB - as the ML manual and JP told me to. The penny dropped with me a few weeks after that after reading a hypothesis on the UMER forum. After that, Minelab finally twigged and issued the patch.

Me? I'm over it. My money's gone elsewhere. But my former confidence in Minelab is severely dented.

YEAH WE ALL GET DUSTED EVERY NOW AND THEN--A QUICK SHAKE OFF AND AWAY WE GO AGAIN .

I've got a twit up here writing graffiti everywhere making me look like a movie star.

yah confidence may have been dented but u r still using minelab detectors rather than a Garret, that still say a lot.

Don't start with the Garret thing again. The whole world should know by now I made a mistake, Jeessuz only knows I've admitted it often enough!

My point is that never again will I buy a new Minelab release immediately it arrives on the market. I did it with 2000, it failed, I did it with the 2100, it failed, I did it with the 2200, it failed, I did it with the 4500 (two of 'em), they failed, I did it with 7000, it failed. So, just like the Garret,,,,,,,,,,,I made a mistake again!

Next time I'll wait two years like I did with the 5000 the 3500 and the 2300. They didn't fail. There's a lesson to be learned d'ya reckon?
