Murchison Weather
Gday all
Wedgetail was enquiring about the weather out Meekatharra way the other day. Just had a look on one of the weather sites I look at and they had another inch of rain there on Tuesday. That makes five inches for the month and that makes the ground out thatta way crap for driving around and detecting in places.
Just in case anyone was interested.
cheers
Brett

Re: Murchison Weather
Mulga,
I am VERY interested in Murchison weather so please keep it coming, even if sounds worserer and worserer! Our plans were to hit some old patches around Meeka, Cue and Yalgoo with this 7000 of ours. But I don't fancy being stuck in Meeka van park sitting on my bum when I camp on a lease for free 5 kms out of Leonora- with TV, phone and internet as well, the pubs not far away and I have mates in the town. Home from home.
So keep it coming MD!
Thanks
W

Gday Wedgie and Martin
Looks like the Murch is going to get another dose this week, so i'd be giving it a big miss for some time I reckon. Nannine/Austin Island are right on the bitumen Wedgie, so you could still try it there if you're really keen. Crap camping out there when it's like this but. Maybe camp at Cue, nice little park there?
cheers

Re: Murchison Weather
When we were at Nannine last year we met a local guy detecting the top of the hill above the old townsite. He said he comes there regularly and usually picks up a bit. He found about 0.5g while we were there. There were four others camped in the shed over the saddle from the town near the lake. They had two caravans and were all sitting around a fire place in the middle of the shed. We ran into one of the couples months later and they said they ended up with about 0.5oz of the dry lake out from the shed. They said they have camped there before and the shed is always empty.mulgadansa wrote:Gday Wedgie and Martin

Re: Murchison Weather
I used to haunt Nannine back in the day. From the sounds of what you say there's not much left in the place. Although, I know a couple of spots well away from the regular ones. ince MetalsX bought the place they allow people on there to detect - but no camping.
I don't stay in van parks unless I can avoid it. Cue park!! I ranked that place as the worst, I mean worst van park I have ever stayed in - ever, anywhere!. How many places dya know where you feel cleaner walking to the shower than you do walking away from it? The place was a bloody plague waiting for someone to catch it@!
Bugger Cue. If the weather's still so bad I'll maybe give the Murch North a miss, do Yalgoo and the shoot through to Leonora. Anyone know the ground conditions south of Yalgoo?
A new detector and a flood of rain! This is bringing back some 'oribble memories of 1995 and Cyclone Bobby. That thing cost me a heap of gold from Lake Austin! Now that's a story for another day!! Anyone for a 68 ounce nugget?

Re: Murchison Weather
looking wet up till thursday Phil, but it changes daily. im heading that way probably thursday/friday. ground south of Yalgoo is wet in patches with water on the side of the roads, i drove a few tracks and they were ok just had to watch your step and park up on solid ground, cars have been known to sink to the axles if you're parked on the wrong spot.
take care

Re: Murchison Weather
Thanks Martin for the information regarding Yalgoo etc.Have thought about maybe heading NE of kalgoorlie to around the Edjudina area but I now see Kal.is going to cop some rain over the next few days so its a bit of wait and see at the moment.Having itchy feet does not help either.

Re: Murchison Weather
Its been a real drenching in Northampton ATM so I phoned a lady called wendy, the caretakers at Karbar station to ask about the road/tracks conditions etc. Wendy told me the main gravel roads are open ATM but the advice is to stick to the main gravel roads and not go bush. they are not expecting any more rain till next weekend. I know of a few old scrapings just off the Karbar tuckanarra rd that can be accessed and parked up on to camp so i may do just that and walk to spots. im more concerned that the camp could be visible from the road and dont want to return to a cleaned out van. if ya keen Phil give me a PM and we could consider teaming up, 2 cars are better than one especially when its wet.

Re: Murchison Weather
Martin,
Thanks heaps for these updates. We haven't made up our minds yet about which way we're gonna head. I'm stuck here until Friday at the earliest as I'm waiting on the dentist. Plus I spent all the Easter weekend with a nasty allergic reaction after getting my legs totally covered in water based paint. Red rash all over, blisters same - even me nudger and me clacker - scratching all night, no sleep, lips swollen shut, eyes can hardly see etc.
Getting better now though but still itching and should be right by weekend. These steroids are great and you can party all night on 'em but ya don't sleep much at all!

Gday Wedgie
I know what you're saying about the old park at Cue but they've done a complete rebuild of the ablutions and tidied everything else up. Everyone's very happy now. Just a thought.
cheers
