Finding new ground Kalgoorlie to Meekatharra - TENGRAPH

Post by targets on Sat 20 Aug 2016, 11:22 pm

Hi all!

Long time reader first time poster here. Always been extremely interested in the world of prospecting and being out in the bush. So I have finally saved up enough pennies, did my research and purchased myself a minelab gpx5000 along with a saedi nugget finder and evolution coil (yes I also have my miners rights).

Now, I have been doing a fair bit of study on TENGRAPH and heading out prospecting trying to stumble on my own patch mostly past Menzies towards sandstone on the beautiful salt and pepper country and I'm yet to find any of the gold stuff after a fair few days of solid detecting. so I guess my main question here is, am I wasting my time detecting on pending leases (blue) which are quite possibly goldless or should I be applying for a 40E permit to be able to detect on exploration leases.

I appoligise in advance if my terminology isn't spot on as I am still very new to the game. If any of you well weathered men and women could shed some light on finding new ground/gold or even any tips to get the best out of my gpx5000 or what to look for I would be extremely greatfull. I am heading from Kalgoorlie to Meekatharra in no rush this next week so I will keep you all posted if I find anything.

Glad to be aboard and nice to meet you all
Happy hunting,
Targets

G'day targets,

Yes, you need to become an APLA member. It will open doors for you in terms of where you can go prospecting and it will be working behind the scenes to keep you prospecting down the track.

It's a big question you ask. Firstly, no one in their right mind is going to give you their spots for you to go prospecting on. Secondly, if the ground is pending it means nothing as to the quality of the ground. Lastly, yes, you will find gold in "salt and pepper", but your 150 odd years too late. Definitely 40 years too late with regards to detecting. There is ground that you can work that not too many people consider and in my opinion is where the big patches are still hiding. Come and do our 3 day training course on Aug 29th and I'll tell you all about it. Yes, I am promoting our courses because I don't give away our secrets for free. What I will say is that whilst I can teach you a lot about prospecting, you can't buy experience. Time on the ground is priceless mate and just remember that " a negative result is still a result" when it comes to prospecting and sampling. Every junk target you dig and duffer spot you work is still giving you experience whether you know it or not. Best of luck!!

Thanks for the replys gold talk and ktown swinger.

I will look into becoming a member as soon as possible then! Also I agree 100% in no way was I asking for people's personal hard earnt spots, simply just asking for a leg up on knowledge and what to look for. I suppose your course offers this! Do you have a website I can check your prices from?

Thanks!

G'day targets

My advice is, look for gold where gold has been found, by that I mean old dry blowing patches etc, sure they have been done to death, but it will give you an idea of what type of ground to look for.

Read the Gold and Ghost books for WA, and on Tengraph there are little crossed picks that say dry blowing, look in these areas.

If it is an exploration lease then get a 40E, if it is a mining lease ring the company, the worst they can say is no

Pending leases especially small ones may be worth a look, large multi block exploration pending ground may not be as good unless you can narrow down the area to look.

Thanks Dave!

Yeah I sat and studied TENGRAPH all week for the spot I prospected at the other day out of Menzies, plenty of old shafts, old dry blowing piles and on top of that had break away and iron stone covered with courts. Nothing but shotgun pellets.. And strangely enough no detecting holes. Maybe I'm missing something? Is there a way to tell if a spot has alluvial gold from TENGRAPH?! Razz

Thanks

G'day targets

I have attached a screen shot example, dryblowing area around Wilsons Patch.

When in tengraph find and area with the crossed picks like I have highlighted in white and named "Dryblowing".

When you find one of these click on it and then in the top RH side of the screen click "Next" "Next" till you have the thing highlighted in white.

Then click on the "i" in the same row along the top RH side of the screen, and whatever you have highlighted in white comes up with some more info.

hi Targets...www.goldtalkleonora.com.au our courses are top dollar...but they are worth it.

remember also...if it was easy then everyone would be doing it....NOT finding gold is more normal than finding it. At least you have made a start and as I said previously....every minute you spend prospecting is valuable experience. I wish you good luck.

Hi all,

Two days into my trip with about 8 hours of prospecting under my belt. 4 or so out of leonorra and about another 4 hours about 200km out of Wiluna.

Still no gold, a handful of bullets and old lead. Heading into Meekatharra as we speak!

Wish me luck
Cheers
