Well gday there people, im Chris. Im relatively new to the detecting world, i am living in kalgoorlie and 12 mths ago purchased my first detector a gpx 5000..the only problem is i seem to find a ton of rubbish, and two small bits is all i have found in 12 mths.. Can anyone maybe give me some advice on what to look for and an area i may have better luck.
Regards
Chris

Hi Chris
best advice is to seek out a few fellow prospectors to maybe tag along with in Kal.

put an add up on the shopping centre notice board stating the obvious and see how u go.

go down to the DMP in Kal and they will give u all the info on were u can go etc plus a few maps from tenegraph.

good luck out there

Hi oneday!!

Thanks for your reply, i have tried getting onto tengraph but have found it near impossible to use.
As far as finding a tag along i have had no luck there as its all a big "secret" it seems and a new kid on the block makes every prospector ive spoken to gives me a bum steer or wont say boo on the yellow stuff. But i will keep persisting!!
Regards
Chris

G'day Chris.
I am also a Tengraph mug, started off 4 yrs. ago and it was impossible to get around.
Bit of persistence and the picture started to appear.

Now I have a bit of a ritual (before we set out for the detecting season) to log on to Tengraph every day or so, the familiarity soon develops.

To my way of thinking, a Miners Right and APLA membership is the backbone of prospecting, Tengraph is the guidebook with all the information. EP's, ML,PL's, Pending with holder names, "black" open ground are all there plus the name of the Pastoral Lease.

Any phone questions to DMP are answered very helpfully when things get off track.

Another useful download/print is the Tengraph State Map Index. Then search by map name or sheet number.
Have fun with it all

G'day Chris

Tengraph can be a bit daunting for the beginner, go to the DMP office in Kalgoorlie, or any other DMP office like Leonora, they will give you a run down on using Tengraph, once you get the hang of it it's quite easy to use, you need to remember that it was designed by Government workers. Smile

The DMP office will also print out a Map of the area you are interested in, for eg: if you want to go detecting around Kal then get them to give you a print out for that area and get them to explain to you what the various leases mean and which areas you can go on, and how you can get a 40e permit to detect on live EL's for 3 months for a $25 fee, this can give you over 3000ha to search and detect on without getting into trouble from the lease holder.

cheers dave
