7k skid plate maintanence
I strongly recommend that u don't knock the skid plate around too much--unlike those of the standard coils like the 11" 8" etc which were hooked up to the gpx models.
do keep the coil surface clean and rotate the skid plate 180.
take care when prising it off the coil.
If anyone has started wrapping tape around the plate --I would be interested to know how u r traveling with it.

Re: 7k skid plate maintanence
Any feedback from Minelab as to whether they are going to make a more robust skid plate like we are used to Ray ?

Re: 7k skid plate maintanence
theres nothing wrong with the one we have got--its operators not reading the manual --keep slightly raised above the ground..
but new plates will be arriving soon same with the batteries.
I can understand the frustration but its hard to break old habits.

Re: 7k skid plate maintanence
What old habits? I've had the original skid plates on 4500s and 5000s for years and they don't even look worn. Scrubbing the ground with a PI machine is not necessary and is even counter productive as the "scrubbing" noise of the coil on ground can lose faint signals in the "noise clutter".
Don't tell me people are wearing out skid plates already?? Or is it the skid plate that's not made of the same stuff as on previous models? Ray?
BTW - how much are spare batteries Ray?

Re: 7k skid plate maintanence
I think a few people are using them like bulldozers or should I say ironing boards for absolutely no reason.
Not very much if anything will get past the coil of the 7k at a micky hair above the ground surface and rocks.
sorry I haven't been out for a couple of weeks swinging but have been crook as a mongrel dog this week.

Re: 7k skid plate maintanence
Hi, I am new to this forum, but I did locate an aftermarket skid plate for my GPZ7000 coil after I cracked my stock one while trying to clean it. They are made in America by minerjohndesigns.com. They come in black, snap on easily, and are quite durable looking. A bit tricky to get on and off, but once you take it slow and easy, it worked fine. It cost me $50 USD, plus shipping. I was glad to find it to protect my coil. Hope this helps someone!
