on the weekend I was trying to run the 7K in Normal and this did happen for a lengthy period of time but wasn't exactly happy with the background noise so in the wisdom of the Spinifex Queen I started running the machine in High yield -Difficult-smoothing On and the sensitivity geared up as high as 18

Also found General-Difficult-Smoothing Off and sensitivity geared up

I also have a habit of turning the Auto Tune to MANUAL and run with that.

I aint chasing .01 gram pieces--it aint worth my effort--neither is .1 gram pieces. I would rather dry blow the area or pan the area to see what fines are around for a wet day. I doubt whether it even picks that fly shit up. That's stuff the 2300 is very good at.

for the money u pay for this machine u shouldn't be too worried chasing that stuff, theres better targets to be had IMHO

I get the Ferrite out every now and again to sort out the GB and I do it in Manual GB.

I have even got into the habit to starting the machine 10 mins befor I am ready to swing and I now carry a spare battery. I have had the battery warning message come on once and I thought well I am using it for too long a period without charging.

Ray,

In principle, I agree with you. But consider the following:

To dryblow, you need a lease and expensive machinery. A 25 tonnes per hour dryblower - at least 25 grand new, a loader 2ndhand - maybe an old one - 20 grand. Then there's running costs and breakdowns. I've had all this in the last few years. Then - to get a lease you have costs, rent & rates & POW paperwork & AHS survey fees and months/years of NT negotiations. A detector that can find 0.1 grammes on a regular basis can be used just about anywhere and not just on one lease and costs a lot less, in money and patience.

To use a pan takes forever and far, far longer than a detector that can get down to 0.01 grammes at inch - which is the depth at which you should be sampling with a pan and not the top dirt.

Get the small stuff and that could lead to the reef. Get the small stuff and leave nothing behind. I know bloke here that use a 2300 as gold pan!

There's good ops out here getting 3 to 5 grammes a day - 6 days a week getting 0.1 grammes targets. It's their living. That's an ounce a week - regular. I've had years of "swinging for the big bits" and often not getting 'em, even back when the getting was good, better than it is these days. Those days are gone for those that don't possess that luck - and luck is what it is. Prospecting is 40% research, 40% hard yards, 15% technical and the rest is LUCK. I'll back hard yards as the winner if you wanna make consistent money these days.

Calculate how many cubic mtrs of dirt you process when you swing - depth, sweep speed, etc. You'll be surprised at the large amount of ground that you "process" to find one gramme. Try outlaying all the costs and time as above to do the same with lease, blower, loader - it's "no contest". I did all those calcs for an APLA exercise way back years ago to prove a point to the DMP that detector operators are a serious consideration for them and shouldn't be ignored.

Moral? Don't ignore the small stuff. It can lead to bigger stuff just like a pan can lead to a reef.

I agree with those sentiments.

I suppose I am 1 of the lucky ones. I have a couple of commercial dry blowers, FEL backhoe, caravan, truck and all the ancillary gear to have a go.

What I am refering to when I find a subgrammer is that the ones I find are few and highly scattered over 100's of meters apart some times, however when I do get a run of say 6 - 12 pieces in a confined area they game on.

as we all know the SDC2300 is a very good machine not only from a detecting point of view but also for those areas that have potential dry blowing results. Take Mt Regal, sure it was hard work doing it tough but I did manage to pull 13ozs, not much u say but I didn't have many overheads either.

We have some interesting times coming up with mining and Resource companies releasing ground hand over fist due to the very high cost in retaining ground which they do nothing with..

in all the years that u pushed why didn't u ever pan the land to see if there was a viable payload after the nuggets were taken? People keep reminding me that there is more fines than nuggets. Or did u and u r holding out.

keep swinging u will eventually find something.

Ray,

I've only returned to pushing in the last few years. In the past, I was always "the floorman" on the leases of others and behind their dozers. I now have my own dozer etc. Holding out? Nah. I'll tell anyone half decent where they may get a bit - with the exception of your mate! clown

I doubt you'll see a major dropping of ground due to this downturn. It's all familiar from past downturns and the companies will just do what they always do and tell lies on the Form 5 Ops report. The DMP have recently tightened up on the ability to apply for forfeit due to lack of expenditure. So even that method isn't much use. So the companies have it locked up,,,,,,,,,,,,but there are other less expensive ways of getting what ya want.Twisted Evil Twisted Evil

"Keep swinging" ya reckon? Which machine dya recommend?clown clown clown clown clown clown clown

I'M VERY choosie who I call MATE.

I certainly wouldn't be wasting my time and effort trying to find a .01 gram piece of fly shit with a 7k.

10 pieces to make .1 then 10 more to make a gram--20 pieces--there might be some busted ass people out there who may get off on that sort of stuff but I personally have no interest and neither should anyone else who owns a 7K. that's the sort of stuff I would expect someone with a sdc2300 to find on absolutely flogged ground or a Garret ATX if they still exist.

There are a few learned people who go out of there way to help people yet get bagged for their effort, u just gotta wonder sometimes.

the SDC has certainly put to rest the use of a Gold Bug 2--hands down --or as they say lay down mesure in some sort of game.
