there is a set manner to settle the 7K down when its noisy.
Make sure u walk forward with the machine when u ground balancing it for about 15m, continually swinging left to right.

I will see if I can get JP to explain it in a more professional way.

and by the way walk back over the same ground once done.

as I said on another forum I get peed of with people that ring me wanting info of me yet have never brought a new detector of me.

Have seen some arguments from those that have sold their 7k's and trust me they have done themselves a injustice.--Too heavy, too noisy etc etc

if they set up their harness the right way then u will find that the harness works a treat.

this machine finds larger deeper gold and also the gold that the GPX cant find. Its been proven already.

The problem with some people is that unless someone publishes a photo then they r finding bucklees.

the photos are very limited indeed yet the personal photos I have seen of the machine in action is testament to its ability.

enjoy

heres a very informative blog from JP about balancing your GPZ7000.

What JP is recommending when u first turn on yah Z that u do a quick track-noise cancel and the do the ground balance holding in the button and go for a 12 second walk swinging in a snake pattern.

once this has been completed don't use the quick track button again for app 30 minutes. Let the Z decipher the info that it has gained to set your machine in a balanced format.

try not to rearrange the settings on your machine either.

hope this is what I understand to be right.

the Z is a different type of beast to the previous detectors and there is a learning curve apart from switching on and going detecting.

Ray,

I was gonna put that link up but ya beat me to it! But I had to read it carefully. What JP seem to be saying is the ZED captures ground balance info in one setting. e.g. High Yield and hold it.

BUT, you can also ground balance in another setting, say "General" and it will hold that info as well but in a "separate folder". So you now have TWO sets of info from the same ground. That way you can switch quickly from one search mode to another without having to do all that "tiresome" ground balancing and final "tweaking" for 20 mins or more. That's pretty cool I reckon.

I don't own a 7000 but I'm interested in it's technology.

If you correctly GB in High Yield then switch to general and correctly GB then back to High Yield is the 7000 noisy because the GB is out?
If it is out why would tracking be unaffected no matter what setting you use?
I hope I have asked the questions in a manner than you can understand.

GN,

The way I read JP's comments are that you do a ground balance in one search mode, say "High Yeild & Difficult Soil" and the machine stores that reading in memory. We'll call this "MEM ONE". But you also reckon there's bigger gold on this patch, so you switch to "General & Difficult" or even "Deep & Difficult" and do another of those complex ground balances. That reading is again stored in memory and we'll call this "MEM TWO".

So now you can switch back to "High Yeild" and your original GB is there in "MEM ONE" ready to go without having to GB once again! Then you can switch to "General" and the second GB that you did as above is there ready to go ditto with no additional waiting time.

In both cases, your GB will be 95% spot on and the next 20 minutes swining will take it to 100% according to JP.

Thanks Wedgy,

So, why would you get two different GB's going over the same ground?

Gawd - you're worse than my granddaughter!! ",,,,But why grandad, whyyyyyyy????"

Well I reckon the ZED is a few machines in one. The "high yield" pushes out the higher freqs (for the smaller shallower bits) with perhaps a few of the lower (for deeper, larger targets) switched off. That means you only need really good GB on the top 300 mm (e.g). But when ya switch to "general" or "Deep" you need GB further down, on the deeper dirt, say down to a metre, with the higher freqs switched off.

Plus, with differing freqs across the transmission range there will be different levels of sensitivities across those ranges, so the ground balance will change as they change, due to the reaction of the freqs on whatever ground is under the coil.

This is all speculation from me but it makes sense (to me at least) when considering what the ZED is actually doing when set in different modes.

Best I can do after a hard morning detecting with a flat battery on the ZED!!!,,,,,,,,,,,don't ask! Evil or Very Mad

Can't wait to get out of Meeka van park. It's a bloody biological health hazard! The gents stink of piss and bad drains and there's "grey water" flooding down the low points of the park. This is as bad as Cue a few years back. Twisted Evil

Thank you Granddad.

So, what you really need is one bloke in front set in High Yield for the tiddlers then his mate close behind in General for the big bits he has missed.

Hmmmm... Think I'll stick to my all-seeing GPX Razz Razz Razz

PS. Wedgy, one must keep a battery charged to run one's detector/car/phone/computer Shocked Shocked Shocked

My advice on caravan parks? RUN AWAY, RUN AWAY. affraid affraid affraid

I haven't seen a great variation in performance between High yield and General--both scan the countryside for nuggets and if there is a larger piece a bit deeper then both will certainly let u know its down there, so this should eliminate switching between these two gold modes.
just remember not to sweep away too fast.
