nuggets to jewellery
the mrs went to Thailand for a couple of weeks to suss the place out and I gave her some of our local gold to see if she could get a good jeweller to use some imagination and come up with something unique..
the result was this very stunning broach of gold and precious stones. This is the back of the broach.

Re: nuggets to jewellery
Nice.
Some of the best cutters in the world in Thailand.
When I was working over there I went for a few days R 'n R to Khao Yai National Park. Just before entering the park there was a road sign like those you see on the Nullabor - A kangaroo in silouhette on a yellow background!! I thought WTF is this. After 200 mtrs I came across a row of new shops and in there was an opal shop. I went in out of curiosity and it was magnificent with opals set in gold, silver, diamonds etc all sorts of good ideas and designs.
The owners were Aussies and had opal mines in SA/NSW somewhere. They had 44 gallon drums of good opal out the back of the shop and about a dozen cutters on the job, all Thais.
Over here, different story. I took a load of small nuggets to a jeweller and asked what he could do with 'em. He soldered 'em all into a nice, enclosing loop of gold wire which was nice idea,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,but every bloody nugget was 3/4 splattered with solder. The gold looked like a soldered up mess. He was a bit sheepish when I went to collect 'em. He knew he'd buggered the job. It was a disgrace to a jeweller but he had the cheek to charge me top dollar for the job.
