Re: New 14" coil
hi all, i picked up the elite today and immediately put it on to the 5k for a run, i found it very quiet to start with on ground just out of cue not touch sensitive and a definite less spikes from the cloud cover etc finding plenty of bullets and boot tacks etc but no gold. I then I hit a large patch of ground where i just couldnt shut it up, all white quartz and ironstone classic salt and pepper. i changed settings with gain right down to 6 and stab to 4 in enhanced and fine gold settings, redid the auto tune and played with every setting available but it just screamed and no matter what i tried i just couldnt shut it up to use it. I persisted for an Hr and called the boys over to see if it was just my settings or a loose connection somewhere but to no avail and ended up swapping for the standard 11 inch mono to continue detecting. later in the day we went over the same ground with a standard 14 inch coiltech and a 11 inch mono minelab coil and they were nice and quiet. im a bit surprised at this result but have to tell it as i found it. i will put it on tomorrow and give it another try on and old scrape nearby being followed by the boys with the setup they are using. I found plenty of targets with the elite and one i dug down around 4 inches for it and got it out of the hole but just couldn't find it in every scoop i tried so i called over John F with his elliptical coiltech/5k combo to see what he thought but there was no target response at all. we turned his off put mine on and there it was again but no matter what i tried i just couldn't get it into the scoop. i think i need more time with this coil to give a fair opinion but a little dismayed ATM, it is early days and I am no expert by any means. i have no issue pinpointing with the standard 11 inch finding pieces down to 0.07g. the SDC was also noisy on this ground but targets were definitely distinguishable from the ground noise. jury is out ATM and a bit more experience may tell another story. I just want to be straight and tell it as i find it guys. i will report in tomorrow and take videos of the same spot showing the situation, i just dont know what i am doing wrong but hopefully it was just a bad connection or something out of the blue and it will be a lot more tame for me.

Re: New 14" coil
Hi Trevor,
No worries mate, use them however you like. I can email you through the originals from the other day if you want them in full resolution also.
Thanks for asking!
Goldfinger thanks for your report, good read. I have been waiting to hear more after Ktowns & my first go with it.
Likewise I would like more time with the coil to give it a thorough run on different types of ground and some more comparison tests with the other coils I own of the same size.
Its all going to take time.
The paint job is growing on me also!
cheers

Re: New 14" coil
hi guys, well i had lots of noise with the new coil. the ground was damp and noisy for most of the coils we used but my 11 inch mono and nugget finder elliptical was still usable in the bad areas but i just couldnt get the new 14 inch elite to work adequately in the same spots, i even tried salt mode to no avail. the conditions were the main issue with a lot of people in cue saying that the ground was noisy due to the wet conditions but i thought that was what the coil was designed for. im a bit dissapointed with the results. there was a few areas where it was super quiet and sensitive but twice i detected for a few hrs persisting with it getting 2km or so away from camp and had to return to camp to put on the elliptical or the 11 inch mono swearing all the way back. my sdc was usable in most of the spots, still a bit noisy but i was able to detect a small 0.7g test piece i took with me on the spot the new coil just screamed and you couldn't tell the gold from the noise. as the soil dries up it may be a different story. for me it failed where it should of worked. sorry coltech but that was my result and i tried every setting available.

Re: New 14" coil
Hi Martin
I read that even the 2300 had a hard time being quiet. this being the case then maybe the only coil that might have had some luck might have been a 14" AI coil.
I don't think the 14" elite coil was made for wet conditions, coz there are very few coils if any that run quiet to my knowledge. Its mainly for areas that are dry like the vast majority of coils even a DD coil would have been a better selection in moist areas--just putting it out there.
good to hear back from Trevor.

Re: New 14" coil
i will send it off to trevor tomorrow ray and see what he says. you may be right as the soil was damp all the way down and could've been the issue. others have reported good results with the same test col and cue is known as some of the worst soil around, especially when damp im heading to sandstone in a few weeks and will try it again when it is returned.
thanks ray

Re: New 14" coil
The last few years, I'm starting to ask myself if detectors and coils are getting a bit too sophisticated and specialised. Doesn't do wet dirt, can't do salt, only find small bits on top,,,,,,,,etc, etc.
What dya all think? Are we overdriving these things. It's getting as bad as golf where ya need a different club for every shot or real fast cars that need a tune up every 1000 kms.

Re: New 14" coil
i spoke to trevor from coiltek today about the noise issue i have had and he was very keen to get the issue fixed. i will be testing the coil here in northampton today against my 11 inch mono to see how it performs in the Northampton mineral fields. this seems to be the only issue to come from the elite with others that have used it not having the same problem so there nay be damage from postage or a fault developed in the shielding or internal wiring. more to come.

Re: New 14" coil
i tried it here at our block and it wasnt too bad for being in a town. i have not had the chance to get out there again and have sent the col back to Ray as demand is high, everyone else seem to have no issue so it may have just been the wet soil around Cue.

Re: New 14" coil
Out the other week Martin with Tom and can say from first hand experience at seeing it perform that he was sure preety happy with it.I was running a coiltech 14 inch round mono and he was picking up a lot stronger signal than I was with the 5000.

Re: New 14" coil
yea all good so far....
in my view it pushes out a stronger / denser field than a std mono so it pings harder on targets, but also picks up hotter ground i find i have to back the gain and stab off a few to keep it running sweet, but even then still an improvement on what im used to

Re: New 14" coil
we put the coil on some ground that was yielding very small reef gold on the weekend and to all our amazement the 14" elite pinged a piece of gold that wouldn't register on the scales and I didn't have a biro to take a photo to compare the nugget or should I say flake of gold to the point of the biro.
just goes to show how sensitive the coil really is.
the coil was also compared to the sdc2300 with its 8" coil which picked the piece up as well.

Re: New 14" coil
G'day Ray- I heard about your escapades with 14" coil on the weekend, my mate seems pretty impressed with your results with it. I take it you were running it in fine gold when you were pinging the littlins??? You still got any in stock? might have to come in see ya this week.

Re: New 14" coil
yeah chad, still got a couple in stock, more on there way.
Alan pinged the smallest piece of gold I have ever seen detected with a coil.
It was the size of a biro point and it wouldn't break the scales in any way shape or form, in actual fact it wouldn't even register.
every one was amazed.

Re: New 14" coil
Just used my new 14" for the first time and am very impressed. Couple of oz's in a couple of days. Best thing about the coil is the really clear signal on a target. Plus got a few bits that don't trouble the scale.

Re: New 14" coil
If you want to find out what that tiny bit weighs-assuming you have scales that read in 100ths of a gram-put a bigger piece on that does register than put the tiddler on. Then you'll know.
I do this and get results down to 0.02 of a gram.

Re: New 14" coil
Hi Folks,
Went out last Monday with the 14" Coil on the 5000 and pinged 4 bits to 1.3 gm. in wet ground after the last rains in Ktown. Smallest was 0.2 gm. Really distinct signals even on the .2er. All down about 4".
This is the second time out with it, first time got a bit just over 2 gm.
Pretty stoked with this coil. Its a little bit heavier than the normal 14" but I use a swing arm and hipstick and can swing it all day.

Good time to leave, should make it still in daylight hours.
Now to get back to your lease with the red hot 7000.
Second thought I better start getting the esky stocked you Pilbara mob are not bad on the drink.
Be good to finally catch up.

Re: New 14" coil
geez what can I say about the 14" Elite only to say that other companys are trying desperately to copy what Coiltek have produced..definetly a game changer for those with the GPX machines especially.
the weight will not be an issue unless u don't have your harness set up properly. some people just like to whinge
try the coil for yourself.

Re: New 14" coil
You're right about the weight Ray. If you're set up right you don't notice it.
I'm no spring chicken, but can swing it all day using a hipstick and control arm.
Have always been a Nuggetfinder man but Coiltek have definitely produced the goods this time. My number one coil now.
Weighed my setup and with the 5000 plus coil and control arm it came out at 3.3 kg.
About the same weight as the 7000.
